Works Consulting to aid ADOT during delivery of new photo logging vehicle
January 24, 2000 -- Phoenix Arizona -- Arizona Department of
Transportation (ADOT) has announced that Works Consulting
(www.gisworks.com) will continue to assist the ADOT Data Section during
the continuing acquisition of a new vehicle for photographing ADOT
highways. Works Consulting, under a previous subcontract to Lee
Engineering (www.leeengineering.com) guided ADOT through the specification
writing and selection of a vendor.
The photo logging project delivers electronic images of Arizona highways at
intervals of 1/100th of a mile in each direction. The current system has
been generating electronic images since 1991. It is near the end of it's
useful life as contemporary technology and improvements in efficiency will
highlight the replacement vehicle. The selected vendor of the new vehicle
is a joint venture of Trigg Industries (www.triggind.com)
and the Australian Road Research Board (www.arrb.org.au). The vehicle will
be outfitted in Los Angeles and delivered to ADOT by the end of April.
The new vehicle will be equipped with linear referencing technology compliant
with ADOT's Arizona Transportation Information System (ATIS) geographic
information system. This will streamline the viewing of highway
characteristics and allow for continued feature inventory capabilities on all
ADOT desktops. Other enhancements in efficiency will effectively
reduce the required staffing of the vehicle by 50%. This will enable
existing ADOT staff to be available for other high-demand data collection
activities.
The effort reflects ADOT's ongoing determination to provide valid information
to support the transportation planning and decision-making process.
