Lee Engineering and Works Consulting to assist ADOT in Regional
Traffic Counting Policy
November 22, 1999 -- Phoenix Arizona -- Lee Engineering, LLC
(www.leeengineering.com) announced
today that Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) selected the team of Lee
Engineering and Works Consulting (www.gisworks.com) to analyze the status
of regional (i.e. rural) traffic counting policy in Arizona.
The study will establish the first comprehensive effort to collect traffic
count data in rural Arizona since the Statewide Long-term Improved Management
(SLIM) program swept through state government nearly 10 years ago. A
public relations effort to re-establish the importance of counting in
transportation planning efforts is integral to the study. Recommendations
are expected to assist the local governments in developing self-sustaining
counting programs that meet the needs of air quality, highway performance, and
pavement management systems.
The project will culminate in a data collection policy that recognizes the
limited resources of local governments yet satisfies the mandates passed down by
the HPMS program and practical planning methodology.
This project is will progress in tandem with a ADOT Data Section effort to
contract for the blanket re-counting of the old Federal-Aid Secondary (FAS) road
system. Twelve hundred (1200) locations in Arizona are being counted for
ADOT as a one-time effort to do counting on these roads for the first time since
1991.
