Works Consulting to determine cluster groupings for seasonal traffic
analysis
Statistical approach will feed determination of annualized traffic
figures
January 28, 2000 -- Phoenix Arizona -- Lee Engineering, LLC
(www.leeengineering.com) announced
today that Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) selected Works Consulting
(www.gisworks.com) to determine the composition of Automatic Traffic
Recorder (ATR) cluster groups statewide.
Although ATRs have long been a component of ADOT’s traffic counting
program, only recently have there been enough ATRs installed to analyze and
group into statistical clusters for factor application on a statistical
premise. Once the clusters are determined, seasonal adjustment factors can
be supplied to transportation planning agencies across the state for the
determination of Annualized Average Daily Traffic (AADT) values.
This project is the first statistical attempt in 12 years to cluster ADOT’s
70-odd ATR machines. Prior factor grouping had to be based upon intuition
due to the lack of sufficient ATR sites and data history. The effort reflects ADOT's
ongoing determination to provide valid information to support the transportation
planning process.
